sermonette: Mitigating the Risk of Sin

How to Reduce the Likelihood of Sin
Bill Onisick
Given 11-Jun-05; Sermon #723s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

Bill Onisick advocates using the principles of risk management to (1) identify sin, (2) quantify sin, and (3) develop controls to detect sin or prevent sin from occurring. Christ identifies areas that must be avoided by our sensory organs in Matthew 5:28-30. Christ advocates proactive methods of preventing sin including supplicative prayer (Matthew 26:40). We must identify or recognize those high risk areas in which sin is likely to occur, including excessive television watching, excessive eating, or excessive spending. If we have a weakness for watching too much television, it might be well to remove the television altogether. If we have a weakness to overspend, it might be well to cut up our credit cards. For every risk of sin, we have preventative and detection devices to help us including proactive prayer, meditation, Bible study, and God's Holy Spirit.
