sermonette: The Cross And The Mark

The Idolatry Of The Beast
David C. Grabbe
Given 03-Sep-05; Sermon #736s; 0 minutes

Description: (hide)

David Grabbe reflects that Catholic prophecies suggesting that the anti-christ will prevail over the pope at the end time mask the true significance of Christ prevailing over the anti-christ and the false prophet. The universal symbol of the cross predates Christianity and seems to be universally shared by all the world's cultures. It also is a symbol shared by the four empires in Daniel's vision. Constantine adopted the cross enforcing it as the emblem of the Roman church. Spanish conquistadors were surprised to see this symbol entrenched in the aboriginal cultures they invaded. Catholic ceremonies, and some Protestant denominations, mark the forehead with the cross during Ash Wednesday and Lent. Theologians falsely assert that the angel protectively sealing God's people in Ezekiel 9 used the sign of the cross. We could well speculate that the cross may be connected to end-time the mark of the beast.
