sermonette: Initiative
Lessons From the Ant
Mike Ford
Given 10-Sep-05; Sermon #737s; 17 minutes
Description: (hide)
Mike Ford, recounting the story of the conqueror Tammerlane, who became inspired and energized by an ant who successfully pushed a kernel of corn over a wall back to the ant colony after 69 failed attempts, focuses upon the diligence, resourcefulness, and initiative of ants, as celebrated in Proverbs 6:6-8. Mike Ford witnessed their diligence and resourcefulness first-hand when a colony invaded his kitchen dismantling a discarded cantaloupe. The sermonette describes the intricate division of responsibilities in the ant colony, including the queen, worker ants, and scouts. Ants have no leader but they do their job without being coerced, serving exclusively for the good of the colony. Ants don?t rely on everybody, somebody, anybody, or nobody, but on their own initiative. We must imitate the ant, realizing that we must use our own initiative rather than helplessly depend on someone else to do the task we have been assigned.
