sermonette: That Lucky ol' Sun's Got Nothing To Do But Roll Around Heaven All Day
Debunking the Myth of Laziness in the Afterlife
Mike Ford
Given 18-Oct-05; Sermon #FT05-03s; 19 minutes
Description: (hide)
Mike Ford, after reflecting upon an interview of David Justice, retired baseball player, suggests that even though a life of leisure would seem to be desirable, God has called us to a life of work. Salvation is not just a matter of accepting Christ, and wafting off to Heaven. Media, inspired by the prince of the power of the air, seems to be pushing us to a life of leisure and doing nothing but to enjoy ourselves. Thankfully God is a God of balance, mandating that we need to have a mixture of productive work and rest. The Sabbath will, of course, be enforced forever. During the Millennium there will be massive work programs to restore the earth. Protestant concepts at their best make it sound like a boring and dull place. The life of a Christian is not one of leisure; it takes effort to serve. As part of the God family, we are going to work—and enjoy it.
