Mike Ford poses the question, “What if God would speak to us audibly? Would we do what God specifically asked us to do?” Moses had such an opportunity as he asked God for instructions about providing water to a rebellious cantankerous crowd. God gave Moses and Aaron clear instructions. Because he did not hallow God in doing what God asked of him, Moses was not allowed to go into the Promised Land. God held Moses accountable. Lessons we have to learn from this episode include the need to: (1) control our anger lest we sin; (2) control our pride; (3) hallow and sanctify God; (4) develop faith that God will deliver us, and (5) learn that if we transgress a law, there is a penalty; sin has definite consequences.
