sermonette: An Acceptable Sacrifice

The Offeratory
John W. Ritenbaugh
Given 03-Apr-07; Sermon #821As; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

John Ritenbaugh, focusing on the theme, “An acceptable sacrifice,” reflects upon the relative acceptability of the offerings of Cain and Abel. Perhaps God sent fire to totally consume Abel’s offering, indicating acceptance of his offering. Interestingly, Abel was totally consumed, becoming the first martyr for faith. Likewise, when we are called to sacrifice our lives to God, we can expect to be used until we are consumed. Metaphorically, everybody called is a tool in God’s hands and will be used until it cannot be used anymore. Christ sacrificed His entire life, becoming totally consumed for our salvation; we must emulate His righteous example.
