sermonette: Electronic Edification

Bill Onisick
Given 26-May-07; Sermon #830s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

Bill Onisick, referring to the language of acronyms and symbols used in text messaging, states that the Internet has emerged as a powerful force for both good and evil. Satan has masterfully used the Internet to maximize his influence and compound evil, even beyond the obvious damage from pornography and sex predators. Considering the millions of bloggers and websites such as my-space, an ether entity which has become numerically the 11th largest nation in the world, we can see the massive power of the word to influence, magnifying exponentially (through the means of Internet flaming) the power of the tongue to offend and destroy. Internet acronyms often evolve into suggestive and profane contexts without the user being aware of these changes. The acronym alphabet soup has been used to break every one of God's commandments. We should be careful not to allow impure and corrupt communication emanate from our keyboards. An on-line message fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
