sermonette: Offertory: Why Work?
John W. Ritenbaugh
Given 27-Sep-07; Sermon #FT07-02s; 16 minutes
Description: (hide)
In this offertory sermonette, John Ritenbaugh continues the mini-series on prosperity, reminding us that God has mandated that we set some of our wealth aside for posterity. In managing wealth, we are confronted with many choices, some clear, some murky. The counsel God gives about physical wealth has spiritual ramifications. The same negative habits that produce physical poverty also produce spiritual poverty. Poverty overtakes us incrementally, step by step. The sluggard will do little or nothing, having no internal motivation or "ant-like" diligence. The sluggard has neither a sense of responsibility nor vision. Poverty is caused because the sluggard lacks understanding, self-control, and vision, having no inner motivation to drive him forward. Spiritual prosperity cannot be created by fiat nor can it be transferred from one person to another.
