sermonette: Lessons for Parents From the Trenches

Raising Godly Seed
Ted E. Bowling
Given 13-Oct-07; Sermon #850s; 18 minutes

Description: (hide)

Ted Bowling, reflecting on the book, Beyond the Band of Brothers, marveled that the leadership characteristics closely parallel our spiritual battle. Winters suggested that we: (1) strive to be a leader of character, confidence, and courage, (2) lead from the front as our Elder Brother blazed the trail as a forerunner, (3) strive to be in top physical shape; likewise we must be in top spiritual shape through prayer, meditation, and Bible study, (4) develop realistic goals and expectations-as God will never put more on us than we can handle, we should never put more on our children than they can handle (5) delegate responsibility; as parents, we must train our children to have a strong work ethic, (6) anticipate problems and obstacles, (7) remain humble; do not let power or authority go to our head, (8) take a moment of self reflection; we should examine ourselves every day, (9) remember that true satisfaction comes from getting a job done, and (10) we need to hang in there and remain tough; we must as Christians endure to the end.
