Before continuing on with the twenty-third installment expounding the book of Matthew, John Ritenbaugh answers two questions from church members. The first question, referring to Acts 13:2 asks what it means to "Minister to the Lord." In this context, ministering means to serve God's people in the Antiochan Congregation performing the works required of a minister, including shepherding the congregation, counseling, preaching, and administering the church. The second question, referring to Acts 15:24, asks whether the circumcision law was to be lumped together with the Ten Commandments and the rest of the Law. The circumcision law does not define sin, but is part of the ritualistic law, having no direct relation to salvation. In Matthew 26, the account of the woman anointing Jesus with precious ointment, when compared with the other gospel accounts, seems to be an entirely different occurrence than the incident recorded in the other accounts. In analyzing the motive for Judas's betrayal of Jesus, greed and disillusionment are ruled out, but misplaced zeal (a ploy compelling Jesus to act) seems to be the most probable. As Christ was gentle with Judas upon recognition of the impending betrayal, He also gives us ample opportunity to repent. Regarding the preparation for the Passover, it seems that Christ had already made prior physical arrangements for this event. During this Passover, Jesus changes the symbols establishing the terms of the New Covenant, with the broken bread symbolizing His broken body and the wine symbolizing His blood saving us from the penalty of sin. The bread and wine distinguishes the old covenant from the new covenant, accommodating the change from physical to spiritual Israel. Even though Jesus knew the flaws and faults of His disciples, He was merciful toward them. The agony of Jesus Christ as He realized His betrayal was near was clearly delineated in Matthew's account, depicting Jesus Christ's humanity. Like us, Jesus Christ had to accept what He could not fully understand. [
