sermonette: Cleansing the People
Kislev 24
David C. Grabbe
Given 02-Aug-08; Sermon #894s; 18 minutes
Description: (hide)
David Grabbe reminds us that the entire Bible contains the account of one extended family and their checkered history. Despite their multiple failings, God continues to bless this family. The prophecies of Haggai depict a humbled people, whose behavior had heretofore made them defiled and unclean, who received instructions to rebuild the temple. Before they could commence on the project, their filthiness or defilement had to be cleansed. While God shakes heavens and earth, He commissions Zerubabbel (a type of Christ) as the governor of Judah (God"s signet ring) to restore and cleanse what had been become corrupted, defiled and unclean.
