sermonette: Faith of an Immigrant
The Example of Caleb
Mike Ford
Given 23-Aug-08; Sermon #897s; 17 minutes
Description: (hide)
Mike Ford, reflecting on Senator Phil Graham's comment on native born Americans as "whiners," contrasts their attitude with new immigrants who still have an untarnished American dream, suggesting that a stranger's vision may give fresh appreciation for the bountiful blessings of Abraham. When Moses sent the spies into the Promised Land, only Joshua and Caleb, the latter a naturalized Israelite from Edom, grafted into Judah, both pioneer immigrants, had positive attitudes about the new opportunities of the Promised Land. Caleb not only had God's Holy Spirit, but he used it. Caleb's intense faith gave him courage. As well as courage, he had patience and humility, waiting patiently for the land God had promised him without a hint of whining.
