sermonette: From Separation to Refinement

Elijah's Walk of Faith
Ted E. Bowling
Given 10-Jan-09; Sermon #918s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

Ted Bowling, reflecting on the life of Elijah, emphasizing that he was a man, not unlike us, but was purified, shaped and refined (just as we are to be) for a mighty work on behalf of God. Some of the time Elijah had to be hidden in isolation in the wilderness of Cherith being fed by the ravens until the life sustaining brook dried up. From there, Elijah was instructed to walk 100 miles to Zarephath where a widow woman would take care of him. Elijah was given the power to perform a miracle in which the widow's barrel of meal would continuously be replenished for several years. A third miracle occurred when Elijah was able to trust God for the resurrection of the widow's son. Through these tests of faith, Elijah was incrementally augmented for greater service. As God's called-out ones, we must be willing to submit to God's refining processes, mindful of the famine of the word and the idolatry around us, enabling us to perform the service He requires of us.
