sermonette: Voluntary Offerings
Offertory - Spiritual Sacrifices
Martin G. Collins
Given 09-Apr-09; Sermon #931as; 18 minutes
Description: (hide)
Martin Collins, reminding us that we do not offer animal sacrifices, admonishes us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices. We owe God our very lives. God wants us to do justice and show mercy, offering a broken and contrite heart made possible with the gift of God"s Holy Spirit. In these seven days of Unleavened Bread, God cleanses us. As the burnt offering of the Levitical offerings gave a sweet savor, so was Christ"s offering a sweet aroma to the Lord. The burnt offering with the head, entrails, and legs represents the entire body. As living sacrifices, we must present ourselves totally, voluntarily, and without any reservations. Our monetary offerings must follow the same pattern. God looks on the heart. We must be willing to give ourselves as a living sacrifice daily, serving God and serving one another unselfishly.
