Money can be important to peoples' well-being and it prompts them to sacrifice time, energy, and health to gain it. However, people imagine that with enough money they can live life (or control it) on their own terms. The rich man vainly imagines that money is his security and strength. Actually, this security is illusory in his deluded imagination. Wealth cannot buy forgiveness or the regenerating power of God's Holy Spirit. Trusting in riches will not bring character. Wealth should not be sought for its own sake because it will provide a false sense of security. On the other hand, an offering measures what we really value, demonstrating whether we will turn over control and trust to God Almighty or to mammon. Are we willing to give up something we desire (including our own life) for someone we love?
