John Ritenbaugh, referring to evangelist Camping’s failed prophecies of the end of the world, points out the woeful ignorance of many ‘religious’ people, especially in regard to Christ’s warning that no one will know the day or the hour, and that many will try to deceive others as to this event. Camping, following the contentions of the Preterists, claims that those warnings apply only to the disciples living at those times. Futurists look to a future end-time fulfillment, indicating that these prophesied events are pre-millennial, with some bench-marks indicating that the time is getting closer (i.e. the development of the Hydrogen bomb, Internet).
