sermonette: Loving Ourself?

Replacing Self Esteem with Godly Esteem
Bill Onisick
Given 23-Jun-12; Sermon #1108s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

Bill Onisick, reflecting on a blog in which he had taken issue, has come to the conclusion that the second part of the Great Commandment—to love our neighbor as ourselves—is inextricably related to the first part. If we love God, but do not love our neighbor, we fall short of keeping the whole law. Paradoxically, if we apply God's agape love to others, we actually promote our own best self-interest as well. We are to love one another as Christ loved us, requiring the agape love prompted by God's Holy Spirit.
