Herbert W. Armstrong traces the roots of modern day Israel (America and the British Commonwealth) from its idolatrous beginnings as subjects of Jeroboam, responsible for causing Israel to lose its identity by formally instituting idolatry and Sabbath breaking (sending Israel into captivity, exile, and scattering). The House of Judah, under Rehoboam, retained its identity by clinging to the Sabbath (the identifying sign between God and His people.)
