David Grabbe, focusing upon Luke 22:37, in which Jesus seems to encourage his disciples to take up weapons, explains that the response "it is enough" in verse 38 seems to indicate a mild rebuke regarding trusting in weapons. Jesus allowed the two swords for twelve men to enable the prophecy in Isaiah 53: 12 to be fulfilled. The official stance on Christians bearing arms is encapsulated in Christ's words, "for they that take up the sword shall perish by the sword." (Matthew 26:52.). Our weapons are spiritual (Hebrews 4:12,I Peter 4:1-2)
