In Exodus 23:10-11, we find instructions for the seventh-year land Sabbath, a time the land is to lie fallow, and the volunteer produce set aside for the poor. The seventh day Sabbath, when the livestock rest, anticipates the multiples of seven pattern throughout scripture, including the seven days of creation, the seventh day Sabbath, the seven-year land rest, the seven cycles of years leading to the Jubilee, the 50th year. It appears that the 49th year (a Shemitah) and the 50th Jubilee year are both holy years, constituting Sabbaths of reconciliation and restoration, when no harvesting takes place. People have speculated that Jesus Christ will return at the beginning of a Jubilee year, on the 120th year of Jubilees following 6,000 years, a time of reconciliation of all mankind.
