Some of us, thinking that hindsight is 20/20, believe we would not have made the same mistakes that our original parents Adam and Eve made or our forebears on the Sinai after witnessing miracle after miracle, including the cloud by day and the fiery column by night. With the assurance that we would not become tempted beyond what we are able to endure, we must nevertheless regard solemnly their examples, recognizing the destructive power of sin. Perhaps future generations looking back at us (receiving the power of God's Holy Spirit to keep the law in spirit and letter) will say, "How can anyone mess up with that advantage"? We dare not compare ourselves to any other hero of faith in the Bible, nor with our spiritual siblings, but only with Jesus Christ, the second Adam, restoring life by sacrificing for all our sins and the sins of all humanity upon sincere repentance. Sadly, the first Adam yielded to sin and brought death upon humanity; the last Adam beat sin and is on course to permanently destroy death. By leading a sinless life, our Lord and Savior accomplished what no other human could have ever done.
