The testimony of Jesus Christ is the gospel and witness He brought, proclaiming man's destiny in the Kingdom of God, as seen in Revelation 12:17. It is the spirit of prophecy, the essence of all revelation, unlocking God's plan, as stated in Revelation 19:10. This testimony, encompassing Jesus' teachings and life, guides believers toward salvation, clarifies end-time events, and surpasses other revelations, as affirmed in Matthew 17:5. Those who hold it keep God's commandments, resist worldly deception, and persevere through trials, as noted in Revelation 13:8. It distinguishes the true church, shaping conduct and witness, ensuring alignment with God's truth, as emphasized in Revelation 1:1-2 and I John 2:6.

The Christian and the World (Part Three)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The Bible identifies a clear distinction between those who stand with God and those who align with the world, as seen in Revelation 12:17. The dragon, filled with wrath against the woman, makes war with the remnant of her seed—those who keep the commandments of God and hold the testimony of Jesus Christ. This testimony, which is the gospel, represents the witness Jesus Christ brought to the world, proclaiming the message of man's destiny in the Kingdom of God. Those who embrace this testimony believe and trust in God, shaping their lives around the hope of the gospel. Their faith drives them to obey God's commandments, setting them in opposition to the world's carnal allurements. In contrast, the world's Christians, though professing faith, lack true trust in God, failing to live according to His commandments or the doctrines of the Bible. This absence of genuine belief leaves them vulnerable to deception and confusion, aligning them with the world rather than with God. Revelation 13:8 warns that all who dwell on the earth, whose names are not written in the Book of Life of the Lamb, will worship the beast. Yet, those who hold the testimony of Jesus Christ, identified by their patience and faith, will persevere through the trials brought by the beast, resisting his mark and standing firm in their trust in God.

The Teaching of Jesus and Prophecy

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The testimony of Jesus Christ stands as a central pillar in understanding the prophetic word, distinguishing the church of God from mainstream beliefs. The angel in Revelation 19:10 declares, "Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy," revealing that the message and life of Jesus are the essence and driving force of all prophetic revelation. This testimony, derived from the Greek word marturia, meaning witness or evidence, encompasses what Jesus said and did, serving as the key to unlocking the mysteries of God's plan. Throughout the book of Revelation, this theme of testimony is evident, as seen in Revelation 1:1-2, where John bore witness to the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. It is further emphasized in Revelation 22:16, where Jesus Himself testifies through His angel to the churches, affirming His identity as the Root and Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star. His teachings, centered on the gospel of the Kingdom of God as noted in Mark 1:14-15, form the core of this testimony, guiding believers toward salvation and the establishment of His Kingdom. The testimony of Jesus surpasses all other revelations, taking precedence over the words of Moses and Elijah, as confirmed during the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:5, where God declares, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" This priority is reiterated in Hebrews 3:1-6, highlighting that Jesus, as the Son, holds greater honor than Moses, a servant, and is the builder of the house over which He rules. Thus, His words serve as the bedrock for understanding all scripture, including prophecy. In practical application, the testimony of Jesus clarifies end-time events, as seen in Matthew 24:3-8, where He outlines the signs of His coming, correcting misinterpretations of Revelation's seals. Additionally, His explanation of the abomination of desolation in Matthew 24:15 and Luke 21:20-21 provides critical insight into Daniel 9:27, demonstrating how His teachings illuminate past fulfillments and guide future expectations. Following His example, as urged in I John 2:6, ensures believers remain on the path of truth, with Jesus as the Forerunner and model. Ultimately, the testimony of Jesus, encompassing all truth and prophecy, demands earnest attention, as warned in Hebrews 2:1-4. Neglecting His teachings risks drifting away from the great salvation He first spoke, confirmed by signs and wonders. As the Bridegroom, His relationship with the church, His bride, underscores the importance of recognizing His greatness and aligning with His revelation to achieve the ultimate goal of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

In Search of a Clear World View (Part Six)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

The true church is marked by keeping the commandments of God and possessing the testimony of Jesus Christ, as revealed in Revelation 12:17, where the dragon wages war against those who uphold these truths. This testimony is the verbal evidence of God's truth, mirroring the teachings and life of Jesus Christ, and serves as a key identifier of the true church amidst a multitude of denominations. As shown in Acts 18:26, the church preaches the way of God, providing a comprehensive understanding of His counsel, a practice echoed by Paul in Acts 20:25-27, where he declares he has not shunned to share the whole counsel of God. This dual commitment to living out God's commandments and proclaiming His complete teachings distinguishes the true church, setting it apart from others that may lack this full testimony. The responsibility falls on each member to ensure they are aligned with this truth, recognizing that the testimony of Jesus Christ is not merely doctrine but a lived reality that shapes their conduct and witness to the world.
