Commentary: What's Happening to the Blacks?

Martin Luther King III said in a speech on the 50th anniversary of his father's "I have a dream" speech, "However sadly, the tears of Trayvon Martin's mother and father remind us that far too frequently, the color of one's skin remains a license to profile, to arrest, and to even murder with no regard for the content of one's character."

The implication, when the statement was seen within the larger context of his entire speech, was that whites are the ones profiling, arresting, and killing blacks. This is the kind of statement that one would expect from Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, whose every effort seems to divide and to anger.

Why are such strong efforts being made against what seems, if one reads the newspapers and news magazines, that whites are almost on a terror campaign to wipe blacks from the face of the earth, when no statistical proof whatever exists that this is taking place?

The George Zimmerman trial for his supposed murder of Trayvon Martin is a case in point. There is no doubt that he killed Trayvon, but did he murder him? When the Florida police inspected the evidence, they recommended that there was not enough evidence to even put Zimmerman on trial, let alone for murder. But a combination of great public pressure from the liberal media, claiming racial bias against the police, plus racial pressure from high ranking blacks, and political pressure from the president himself and other political figures, forced a trial of Zimmerman.

Well, Zimmerman won because the jury saw the evidence as the police originally saw it. There was no basis for a trial in the first place. Prosecutors had no compelling evidence. Zimmerman certainly killed him, but, the jury ruled, the evidence showed that it was in the defense of his own life. Thus the state of Florida and the city of Sanford were publicly embarrassed for letting their better judgment be muscled aside by outside emotional interests who appear to have an agenda different than proving that Trayvon Martin was murdered.

The presiding judge at the trial would not allow Trayvon Martin's history of infractions at school and in the community at large to be entered as a means of Zimmerman's defense. But Zimmerman still was acquitted anyway.

Now, who is it that has been beating the drums over the past 30 or 40 years that the whites are unofficially waging war against the blacks? I say "unofficially" because statistics kept by the Bureau of Justice show it's just not happening. The initial blame must be charged to the media. Why? Because they give the impression in the news articles that it is happening.

Just to give you an example, in 2011 (the most recent year for which complete statistics are available), the overwhelming majority of most crime—not just murder—is an intra-racial activity. That is, the crimes are committed within the same race. Blacks commit crimes against other blacks and whites commit crimes against other whites. This is easily understandable because those are the people most criminals associate with—that is, people of their own race. In 2011, the statistics reveal that 84% of white victims of murder were killed by another white person. 93% of black victims were killed by other blacks.

Who is murdering whom? Well, the answer is clear.

Here's a fairly long quote from the Bureau of Justice that helps put black-on-black crime into a more understandable perspective, and it is almost mind-numbing:

Blacks account for 49% of all homicide victims in the United States, almost exclusively at the hand of other blacks. To put these numbers in perspective, recall that over 6,400 servicemen and women have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined over the course of a decade long war fought in those nations. During the Vietnam War, which lasted nearly 13 years, some 58,000 Americans were killed. Nearly 13% of all killed in Vietnam were African Americans (which is almost exactly the percentage of the United States population that they occupy.) Extrapolating black-on-black crime data reveals that, by comparison, approximately [listen to this] 100,000 African Americans have been killed on our own streets at the hands of other African Americans in roughly the same stretches of time. It is difficult to find anyone who would whitewash these mind-numbing statistics.

But the truth of the matter is that the figures are not being whitewashed. They are being covered up and lied about by the leadership of the African American community and the media, thus raising a false flag of "hate-filled whites waging war against blacks."

The heart of the issue is not racial. The problems are human. The true issues among the blacks are the same as exist among whites. The African Americans, like white Americans, are almost completely under the thumb of Satan the devil.

Once anybody, regardless of race, reaches that point, they turn on others as being the cause of their problems, blaming them and vindictively getting revenge by attacking, if only verbally. And as a result, they lose their sense of the right level of responsibility to God and each other. Family life breaks down, and in frustration, they kill one another because it is convenient. They are just close at hand. So they do that rather than looking within and humbly straightening themselves out as God would have them do.

Making things worse, the blacks, including most of their leadership, have been sold a bill of goods that government would solve all the family, racial, and economic problems. It would help greatly if individual black families would seek out better leadership. It is available, and hopefully someday they will come to see that.

Here are four steps that I think that they need to do—all of us need to do, really:

1. They have to realize that each person must change himself and not justify and blame others.
2. Each person must follow successful, sound-minded, and peaceful examples. They need to be looking to people like Ben Carson, Thomas Sewell, Walter Williams, and many other blacks who have set right goals and patiently accomplished them rather than attempting quick fixes.
3. They need to drop their associations with the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who have destructive agendas.
4. And they need to acknowledge to themselves that the media and government have agendas similar to the Al Sharpton- and Jesse Jackson-types, which is the seeking of power while not truly educating rightly regarding the goal setting and character issues that are involved.
