The book of Proverbs encourages conservative economic principles. The sluggard, slacker, or lazy person is the brother to a vandal or saboteur. Laziness and willful vandalism brings about the same destructive result. To be spiritually lazy is to commit spiritual suicide. Wealth (as a form of creativity) must be accumulated steadily and gradually. As a result of the functioning of the second law of thermal dynamics, everything runs down, requiring continuous maintenance. Economic cycles are mercurial, demanding that we must preserve some of our income for dangerous economic times ahead. God has commanded that we dress and keep, producing wealth, and then to preserve, set aside a portion for foreboding economic times, for our own family and for others who need our help.
