Commentary: The Alarmists' Hoax

On November 16, 2016, Oxford Dictionaries announced “post-truth” as its 2016 International Word of the Year. It recognized a new period in human history—the "post-truth era."

Since the world has become so devoid of the truth, people are becoming more afraid of what the future holds in store for them. The result is that they are becoming almost entirely without true hope.

The millennial Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, made headlines and sparked conservative criticism when she said recently that she and other young Americans fear that "The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change." Her "12 years" comment comes from a UN Report on Climate Change. Her complete statement was,

Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us, are looking up, and we’re like, "The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change," and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?

(She is known for saying things that are non-factual.) It’s sad, but many Millennials blame climate change for having no savings and no children, according to a MarketWatch article by Kari Paul that was published on June 24, 2019. The article is a lament by Millennials that climate change is ruining their adult lives. They are afraid and have no hope for the future!

Never mind that global warming stopped in 1995, polar bear populations are thriving, and sea level increases are only 1.5mm per year. That is about the width of a penny viewed from the side, and not enough to raise the sea by one foot in 100 years.

Climate change, as it is portrayed by the alarmists, is a hoax, but that has not stopped tens of millions of Millennials from falling for it. It isn't just Millennials; it is young adults, especially the youngest generations, that have been so propagandized. They have been deceived that the Earth’s climate will be irrevocably and catastrophically altered if massive economic changes are not implemented in the next 12 years. The suggestion by the UN and other alarmists is that we throw money at it. That is always their solution for man's woes. (Never mind that apocalyptic forecasts of a “new ice age,” “population bomb,” and world starvation have been issued for the past 50 years, and they have all been wrong.)

Millennials are often not saving enough, not getting married and not having children, because they believe—wrongly—that the future is catastrophically bleak for all concerned. This is a great tragedy for this nation, and even for the world. Marriage and children are a joy, despite the challenges. We all have them in our lives, but we certainly would not give up our children, if you have ever been a parent. These young adults are sacrificing their futures for fear of a non-existent threat. This is the power of propaganda and miseducation combined.

Let’s hope a few more years of good weather and no climate catastrophes convince these young people to put aside their fears and start thinking about a better future. Hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods are not climate catastrophes; they are normal variations in weather patterns and cycles. That is not to say God will not increase these things as we near the Day of the Lord, but that mankind barely, if at all, affects the earth’s climate.

Those involved in the re-engineering of society know that if they can keep people in a state of fear, they can control and manipulate them easier. This is Satan’s world and the leaders do his bidding by lying to the people to enslave them. To such leaders, Jesus said in John 8:44,

John 8:44-45 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

In John 8:32, Jesus tells us, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

We have a world that is lied to constantly, day after day, in this post-truth era. Although the truth is revealed by God, nevertheless, it must be thought through in order to internalize it, in order to truly believe it. There are some things that a person can’t be told; he must discover them for himself. You can’t tell someone the truth and expect him to believe it off hand; you can only put him into a position in which he can discover it for himself. Unless we discover truth for ourselves, it remains a second-hand and external thing and we will usually forget it quickly.

The Bible, by compelling a person to draw his own conclusions and to do his own thinking at one and the same time, makes truth real to him and fixes it in his memory. Unbelievers do not seek truth as a way of life, but believers do! We seek the truth in everything—spiritually, academically, politically, scientifically, environmentally. As God's people, we are truth-seekers.

The Bible (especially the parables) conceals truth from those who are either too lazy to think or too blinded by prejudice to see. It puts the responsibility fairly and squarely on the individual. It reveals truth to him who desires truth; it conceals truth from him who does not wish to see the truth.

Often people are too afraid to hear the truth because it requires a change in their thinking, and often in their lifestyle. It requires people to think outside of their mental box, which is uncomfortable. They are afraid to go against the world’s traditions and philosophies.

We can usually pull out of short-lived or temporary trials. However, when it comes to end-of-life fears, people can easily settle into incapacitating hopelessness. This is happening to young adults today.

Proverbs 10:28 The hope of the righteous will be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

Webster’s Dictionary defines "hope" in this way: "Hope is a desire accompanied by the expectation or belief that it will be fulfilled. To hope means to look forward to with confidence of fulfillment, to expect with desire."

This defines the word "hope," but doesn’t explain what true hope is. In everyday conversation, people often say "hope" when they mean "wish." When we say, “Let’s hope it all works out for the best,” it often means we are afraid it won’t.

When a person is given the opportunity to know God’s truth and fails to act on this hope, he becomes like the individual described in the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:25, who refused to produce with the one talent given to him. In an attempt to justify his failure, he replied, “I was afraid.” He possessed no vision for the future. He had no hope!

It has been said that as human beings, “We hope vaguely, but dread precisely,” meaning we spend more time on dread than on hope. It seems we put more effort into dreading than hoping. Though we realize that God’s Kingdom will be set up on earth, and we desire to be part of it, still there are times when we despair over it with fear and self-doubt. These hopeless attitudes come from Satan, who knows God’s Kingdom is coming, and so has no hope. Nevertheless, Psalm 31:24 says,

Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

We do not have hope in the solutions of the leaders of this humanistic society. Our hope is in the promises and protection of our Eternal, Almighty God, so we have nothing but hope for our future and for eternity.
