sermon: Lacking Nothing (Part 1)
Biblical Monetary System
Martin G. Collins
Given 06-Aug-11; Sermon #1060; 75 minutes
Description: (hide)
Martin Collins, admitting that America’s economic woes are worsening, maintains that America is still incredibly blessed in comparison with the scarcity experienced in the rest of the world. God blessed Israel conditionally, dependent upon obedience and law- keeping. Unfortunately, Abraham’s descendents have squandered these blessings, threatening their imminent curtailment because of breaking the covenant God made with Abraham. Tim Geithner and the Federal Reserve System, authorizing printing (or monetizing) ‘phony monopoly’ money, is selling all of us into economic slavery. Scarcity seems to redefine the value of everything, including tools, food, or sentimental objects. Utility trumps every other consideration. In a catastrophe money and precious metals may be worthless. In a barter system, one man’s junk may be another man’s treasure. Man does not live for food alone unless there is no food. Money indeed is a convenience if it is responsibly maintained, unlike the incompetence demonstrated by the Weimar Republic or the Federal Reserve System. Money is a social phenomenon, enabling a utilitarian exchange of goods and services, having portability, recognizability, divisibility, permanence, durability, and scarcity. Market forces (not the government) determine the worth of money or any other method of economic exchange. The government does not create wealth; it can only confiscate other people’s wealth. In times of scarcity, even gold and silver will be held in revulsion. In the final analysis, faith is a more valuable commodity than precious metals.
