Daniel Chambliss' work, The Mundanity of Excellence, suggests that excellence is defined by the cumulative effects of little things. Excellence is obtained by achieving qualitative focus, emphasizing technique, discipline, and attitude. Sometimes people attribute talent to ordinary activities polished to brilliant technique. Excellence can be achieved by doing the ordinary exceedingly well. Our Elder Brother worked hard at mastering the mundane things, learning to empathize with our struggle and learning how to relate to us (Hebrews 2:10). In order to run our spiritual marathon (1 Corinthians 9:24), we must be faithful in the small and mundane things.
