Remembering God's Gifts, Promises, and Rewards

Sermon by John O. Reid

God desires for us to focus on the promise of reward, an essential aspect of His plan that should captivate our attention. This promise of reward is not merely a superficial gesture but carries a profound meaning, encompassing wages or a higher reward for our actions, whether good or bad. God urges us to strive and overcome to the best of our ability, not because we must earn His favor, but because He longs to bestow upon us the greatest reward possible, thereby bringing more honor to Himself. The greater the reward we receive, the greater service we can render to Him and to others. In the example of Abraham, God Himself was his reward, his profit. By obeying God, Abraham was to receive all that God is—His instructions, His way of life, His mind, His protection, His help in times of need, His confidence, faith, and encouragement. Abraham was promised a place in the God Family, an eternal life with a marvelous future. As Abraham's children, we too can claim this promise, knowing that everything God is, He will give to us as our exceedingly great reward. God's rewards are varied and tailored to our efforts and abilities. Some rewards signify eternal life in a wonderful environment, others a crown of life with assurance against the second death, or a deep understanding of God's mind. Rewards may include acceptance, symbolized by a white stone, or positions of authority over nations, shining as the morning star upon resurrection. Some will walk with Christ in righteousness, others will serve as pillars in His church, bearing His name and the name of the Holy City, while some will sit with Him, assisting in the administration of His office. Within each group, rewards reflect the degree of effort, from exceptional to below average, based on what God knows we can handle, for He has called us according to our abilities and empowered us to fulfill our roles. God's desire is for us to strive for the finest reward possible, understanding that our future roles will involve ruling and teaching in a world that needs rebuilding and spiritual nourishment. There will be a tremendous need for leadership and guidance in the vast projects ahead. Through our efforts to overcome and build godly character, we align ourselves with His purpose, ensuring that He will provide all we need to stand firm in the end times and never let us down.

Faith and the Christian Fight (Part Five)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Both the 'eternal security' and 'no works' doctrines are destroyed by the remarkable example of Noah, who performed extraordinary works based upon faith.

Faith and the Christian Fight (Part Four)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God begins His spiritual creation by grace because the wages of sin is death. Consequently, God's people will exercise humility and faith in yielding to Him.
