A Sin Unto Death
'Ready Answer' by StaffThe concept of willfully sinning is central to understanding the spiritual state of those who have left God's church. A person has sinned unto death if he has willfully turned from God's way, as highlighted by the term "willfully" from Hebrews 10:26, which means voluntarily or willingly. This serves as a solemn and terrifying warning for any who might consider abandoning God's church. It is often difficult for fellow human beings to determine who has crossed this line, and because of this uncertainty, there is allowance for hope and intercessory prayer. While such prayer may seem futile in cases that appear hopeless, it is not deemed a sin to pray for those who have strayed, as long as their state is not definitively known. We are encouraged to err on the side of praying for our errant brethren, maintaining hope that they might repent and return to God's way.
