One God and One God Only

Sermonette by Mike Ford

God commands us to have no other gods before Him, as declared in Deuteronomy 5:7. He is a jealous God, unwilling to tolerate anything or anyone competing with Him for our worship. Nothing—be it family, work, or possessions—must take precedence over Him in our hearts and minds. The clear message is that there should be no other gods but Him; He alone must be the sole focus of our devotion. Anything that we place ahead of Him becomes another god, and anything that competes for the time that belongs to Him is an idol. For God's plan to come to fruition in our lives, He must be first. Our participation in His plan and the receipt of His blessings depend on His position in our lives. The example of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22 demonstrates this truth, as Abraham proved his loyalty by showing that God held the foremost place in his heart, with no other gods before Him. God assured Himself of this priority in both Abraham's and Isaac's lives, and as a result, bestowed great blessings and promises. The lesson remains that for God's plan to work and for us to have a relationship with Him, there must be room in our lives for only one God.

Jesus Is God

Numbers Don't Lie

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Mike Ford

There are responsible and irresponsible uses of numbers. Only God's numerical patterns are reliable, while all humanly-devised uses of numbers are bogus.

Manasseh

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Even though Manasseh was absolutely the worst king ever to lead Judah, Manasseh finally got the message that God only is God, and sincerely repented.

Childrearing (Part Four)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

Children do not initiate love but reflect it. If a child does not receive a convincing demonstration of this love, he will not become a conductor of love.
