2 Corinthians 10:12
For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
1 Corinthians 4:6-8
Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? You are already full! You are already rich! You have reigned as kings without us&emdash;and indeed I could wish you did reign, that we also might reign with you!
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor is humility.
A haughty look, a proud heart,
And the plowing of the wicked are sin.
For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
He beholds every high thing;
He is king over all the children of pride.'
The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
When pride comes, then comes shame;
But with the humble is wisdom.
By pride comes nothing but strife,
But with the well-advised is wisdom.
John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
“Do you not know this of old,
Since man was placed on earth, That the triumphing of the wicked is short,
And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment? Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens,
And his head reaches to the clouds, Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse;
Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
