Mary of Bethany anointed the feet and head of Jesus with expensive spikenard oil, causing both the indignation of the disciples and the approbation from Christ, who commending Mary for her sacrifice (equivalent to an entire yearly salary) at a great cost to her, and in the process had guaranteed an eternal memorial for herself. Mary anointed the royal Priest who would make atonement for her (and all of our) sins. We must emulate Mary in our willingness to sacrifice all we have.
