The church continues to scatter and we need to develop endurance, bearing up courageously under suffering. Laura Hillebrand's book, Unbroken, is the poignant story of Louis Zamperini, a famous runner denied the Olympics because of the onset of World War II. He became a bombardier in World War II, who crashed in the Pacific, saving his companions in a life raft, surrounded by sharks, with enemy Japanese aircraft firing down on them. At one point, a typhoon blew them into enemy Japanese territory, where they were mercilessly tortured, kept in a near state of starvation. He remained unbroken in spite of suffering repeated bone fractures from a malicious captor. His father knew that it was impossible to break Louis's indomitable spirit. Today at 94 years old, Louis is still alive with a free spirit. We need to be just as tenacious about guarding God's Holy Spirit within us. "Isn't one minute of pain worth a lifetime of glory?"
