God's people are admonished to bring every thought into captivity to Christ (II Corinthians 10:4). They may at times feel as though they have capitulated when they are cautioned not to retaliate or seek revenge upon being persecuted. But, upon further reflection, yielding to God's sovereignty, using spiritual weapons, namely the word of God (Hebrews 4:12), will tear down the most impregnable strongholds, including the walls of Jericho and our intractable carnal natures. As Joshua encountered the awesome and terrifying presence of the Commander of the Lord's army (namely Jesus Christ—Joshua 6:1-2), who promised to give Joshua the city of Jericho (foreshadowing the seven seals and seven trumpets of Revelation 8-11), the same Commander and Chief of God's Army offers His called-out saints the honor and glory to serve in the army of the Word of God - Revelation 19:13) putting down the evil rebellious Kings of the Earth (Revelation 19:14), establishing the Government of God and perfect godly justice, which has been sorely lacking for 6000 years).
