In I Corinthians 3:4-6, we read that though Paul planted, and Apollo watered, Almighty God implanted the distinct abilities as well as the increase. If God had not supervised the process, each spiritual gift would have no use whatsoever. God is solely responsible for prospering and increasing the works. All of God's people have been given unique spiritual gifts that differ from one another. It is solely God's prerogative to assign the responsibilities. We all must assume the humility of John the Baptist, who realized when it was his time to decrease, he bowed out gracefully and ungrudgingly. Likewise, as God endows us with certain skills and abilities, we are to imitate the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps and got to work. After listing all the potential gifts, Paul assures the Corinthians that if God's seal of love is not mixed with the application of these skills, God will not bless the effort. As the composite church of God, we prophesy by keeping the Sabbath and the entirety of His holy and spiritual law, setting an example of righteousness, becoming lights to the world. Our charge as God's called-out ones is to sow plentifully to reap abundantly, multiplying a bumper crop of righteousness (II Corinthians 9:6).
