According to scripture, an offering is something brought near to God (Hebrew qorban) or a gift /tribute (minhah) given in devotion. The first recorded offering in Genesis 4 teaches that offerings arise from the fruits of our labor and that God values the giver's heart more than the gift itself. Abel's offering was accepted because it was given in faith and sincerity, but Cain's was rejected because of his wrong motives. Deuteronomy 16:16-17 identifies offerings as tributes to our Sovereign—tokens of gratitude allegiance, and submission to God's authority and blessing. We do not give by a fixed rule, but according to how God has blessed us. In II Corinthians 9:6-8, Paul asserts that giving should be generous, thoughtful, and cheerful, never grudgingly or forced. Such giving reflects trust in God's provision and honor Him as the true source of all abundance. Psalm 107 teaches that offerings are acts of thanksgiving and worship—our joyful acknowledgement that God has redeemed, sustained, and furthermore blessed us beyond measure.
