Deliverance and Unleavened Bread

CGG Weekly by John Reiss

During the observance of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the symbolism of readiness and deliverance is evident in the instructions given to the Israelites. In Exodus 12:11, God commands, "And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet," signifying preparedness for a swift departure from Egypt. This imagery of sandals reappears in the New Testament in Acts 12:8, where an angel instructs Peter during his miraculous rescue from imprisonment, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals," echoing the urgency and readiness for deliverance as seen in the exodus account. These instances highlight how God prepares His people for liberation in both historical and personal contexts.

Knowing God: Formality and Customs (Part Five)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God places significant emphasis on both the internal heart and external appearance, as seen in various biblical illustrations. In the context of being in His presence, proper attire and cleanliness are matters of respect and honor for His holiness. Specifically regarding sandals, when Moses and Joshua were in the presence of God, they were instructed to remove their dirty shoes, as it was deemed inappropriate and unfitting to stand on the same ground as He with soiled footwear. This act symbolizes the need for purity and reverence when approaching Him, reflecting the principle that external presentation should align with internal respect for His divine authority.
