Baptized in the Sea

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The baptism of Jesus Christ stands as one of the most memorable events recorded in the Bible, found in Matthew 3. It seemed astonishing that the Messiah Himself sought baptism, and John, in His humility, felt unworthy to perform it, expressing that He needed to be baptized by Jesus instead. Witnessing this profound exchange and the subsequent events would have been unforgettable. As the baptism occurred, the heavens opened, and it appeared as though the clouds parted, allowing sunlight to illuminate the scene. The Spirit of God descended visibly upon Him in the form of a dove, and a voice boomed from the heavens, affirming His divine mission. This moment marked the beginning of His great work of preaching the gospel, serving as the initial step in His monumental purpose. In the context of Christian baptism, we are not baptized into Moses as the Israelites were, but into Christ Jesus. This immersion signifies a union with Him and His Body, the church, becoming members of Him with Him as the Head. Through baptism, accompanied by the Holy Spirit, He and His Father dwell within us, establishing a fellowship and communion with the Father and the Son. This act symbolizes death, burial, and resurrection, marking the end of an old life of sin and the beginning of a new life in righteousness, reflecting a commitment to live sinlessly in service to God and fellow man, under His grace.

Remembering Your Vows

Sermon by John O. Reid

Like the marriage covenant, counting the cost is the most serious part of the baptismal agreement, not something to be taken lightly.

The Wonderful Ordinance of Water Baptism

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Baptism symbolizes a burial and resurrection, or the crucifixion of the carnal self. After a person realizes his ways have been wrong, he should counsel for baptism.

Does Doctrine Really Matter? (Part Eleven)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Because of Dispensationalism, many believe there is an adversarial relationship between law and grace, as though they cannot be complementary.

Differences of Opinion

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Satan champions self-opinion and mob behavior. God's church has never been immune to division because each member has only part of the truth.
