A Thoughtful Offering

Sermonette by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

God desires that we approach the giving of offerings with thoughtful consideration, not merely as a routine act. As instructed in Deuteronomy 16, we are to reflect on the blessings He has bestowed upon us and consider the needs our contributions can address. Offerings are a form of good works, facilitating essential support such as providing for members, ministers, and the broader work of spreading the gospel. They enable the availability of resources like feast locations, publications, and communication tools for many who need them. God does not wish for us to give perfunctorily or adopt a detached attitude once our offering is given; instead, He calls us to remain engaged, thoughtfully considering how our blessings are used to meet needs within the church. Through this mindful participation, as highlighted in Haggai 1:3-8, we align with His purpose, bringing Him pleasure and glory by actively contributing to His work.
