Be Prepared

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

God's preparation is a profound example for us to follow as we strive to align with His purpose. He knows the end from the beginning, meticulously planning every detail of His creation, right down to the smallest elements, as seen in the building of the Temple. In I Chronicles 22, David, under God's guidance, prepared abundantly for the house of the Lord, ensuring iron, bronze, and cedar were ready in great measure, reflecting a divine pattern of thorough foresight. This preparation was not haphazard but followed detailed plans, mirroring how God has been building His spiritual Temple from before the foundation of the world. His foreknowledge ensures that every part fits perfectly into His design. Moreover, God prepares us through testing and correction, not as punishment, but to refine us for His purpose. As shown in Deuteronomy 8:2-3, He led the Israelites through the wilderness to humble and test them, revealing their hearts and teaching them to live by His word. This process continues today as He shapes us, removing imperfections to fit us into His holy Temple. Jesus Christ, as the chief cornerstone, oversees this spiritual building, preparing us with increasing intensity as trials grow harder, ensuring we are ready for the Kingdom of God. God's preparation also extends to His prophetic insight, providing us with history written in advance. Through His prophecies, He equips us to anticipate and plan for what lies ahead, even if not fully understood, so we can align our efforts with His will. His mercy is evident in the records of the past, preserved in His Book, allowing us to learn from those who came before and prepare accordingly. In all these ways, God demonstrates His unwavering commitment to preparing us, urging us to participate actively in this divine project.
