Fear and Faith (Part Two)
CGG Weekly by Mike FordAt Kadesh Barnea, God commanded the Israelites to possess the land of Canaan, assuring them of His presence and protection. Despite witnessing daily miracles and hearing Moses' encouragement to not fear or be discouraged, the people hesitated. They proposed sending spies to scout the land, a plan that Moses initially favored. However, when the spies returned with reports of strong fortifications and great warriors, the Israelites rebelled and complained in their tents, refusing to advance. Moses urged them not to be terrified, reminding them that the LORD their God would fight for them, just as He had carried them through past difficulties. Yet, their fear overpowered their faith, and they did not believe in the LORD their God. As a result of this disobedience and lack of trust, God condemned that generation to wander in the wilderness for another 38 years until they perished, sparing only Caleb and Joshua for their faithful reports. This pattern of reacting with fear instead of faith in the face of significant trials reveals the dire consequences of such responses.
