Deadlines

Sermonette by Joseph B. Baity

In a recent study, scientists declared that, regardless of lifestyle or environmental factors, each human being has a clock with its own expiration date.

The Unknown Deadline

Sermonette by David C. Grabbe

We do not know how long the project (our sanctification process) will take. Each day is critical in doing our part to be of the same mind as God.

The Unknown Deadline

'Prophecy Watch' by David C. Grabbe

Deadlines are critical points by which tasks must be completed, serving as invaluable tools to focus our efforts and measure progress. In the extraordinary project of God's plan of salvation, there exists a deadline, though it remains unknown to us. This unknown deadline manifests in two significant ways: the timing of Christ's return and the moment of our individual deaths. Regarding Christ's return, He consistently warns that it will be unexpected, with the day and hour known only to the Father. Even Christ Himself declared that He does not know the specific time of His return, emphasizing that this knowledge is reserved solely by God. Despite the thematic connections between the Feast of Trumpets and His return, the exact deadline remains undisclosed, urging us to reconsider any assumptions about pinpointing the precise day. On a personal level, each of us faces an individual deadline marked by the end of our lifespan, after which spiritual growth ceases. This personal deadline is also unknown, as God alone determines the completion of His work in each saint's life. The uncertainty of this deadline warns against procrastination and complacency, which can lead to a spiritual decline by focusing on lesser priorities. In light of these unknown deadlines, we are encouraged to be rich toward God with our lives, prioritizing choices that reflect His character and image. God values our devotion through just actions, steadfast mercy, and humble obedience over material offerings. The uncertainty of time compels us to ensure that our walk with God remains the utmost priority, dedicating each day to growing into His image and fulfilling His will for us.

The Sovereignty of God: Part Four

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

God, like manufacturers and builders, sets a time for the completion of a project and works against deadlines. The difference is that He always meets His deadlines. Genesis 17:20-21 contains a deadline concerning the promised birth of Isaac, and it happens exactly as God says it will, right to the very day, perhaps to the very hour, minute, and second. This prophecy is fulfilled precisely 430 years later when Israel left Egypt as the sun set, ending one day and beginning another. God's counsel shall stand, as stated in Isaiah 46:10, with prophecies ringing with positive assurance because no force can stop Him from acting exactly how, when, where, and in whom He purposes. He will use every means at His disposal to prepare and save those called into His purpose on schedule with the return of Jesus Christ.

The Sovereignty of God (Part Four)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God operates according to deadlines that He establishes for the completion of His purposes. Just as builders and manufacturers set schedules for their projects, God has determined specific times for events to occur, ensuring that His plans are fulfilled exactly as intended. No one can delay or hasten these deadlines, for His sovereignty guarantees that His will is accomplished precisely when He has ordained. Examples such as the set time for Abraham and Sarah's wait for Isaac, Joseph's release from prison, and Israel's departure from Egypt after exactly 430 years demonstrate that God's timing is unerring. If God has a deadline for the return of Jesus Christ, it will happen exactly as scheduled, unaffected by human readiness or intervention. God works tirelessly to prepare those He has called, ensuring they are ready when the appointed time arrives, as His purpose will not be thwarted by any obstacle.

Focus Is The Key

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

To counteract interruptions, we must rid ourselves of vague goal setting, replacing it with a deadline, continually reminding us that time is finite.

The Path from Here to Beyond

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

We have no idea when Christ will return. We must, in our mind's eye, see our God crafting us into what He desires, preparing us for His Kingdom.

Setting Spiritual Goals

'Ready Answer' by Staff

Business advisors and self-help books recommend that we set goals and make plans to succeed in our endeavors. Why do we not do this to help us overcome sin?

Self-Government and Responsibility (Part Three)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Jacob's Trouble, or the Great Tribulation, comes about because people are not meeting their God-given responsibilities: keeping His Commandments.
