A Thoughtful Offering
Sermonette by Richard T. RitenbaughGod desires us to be thoughtful in our approach to His way of life, urging us to consider not only the blessings He bestows upon us but also the needs our blessings can fulfill. He does not want us to give offerings perfunctorily on holy days, merely repeating past amounts without reflection. Instead, He calls us to think deeply about where our money comes from and where it goes, ensuring it is used to meet the needs of others and to support the work of the church. God does not wish for us to adopt a mentality of simply giving and forgetting, feeling no obligation to see that our contributions are used properly. Rather, He encourages us to participate actively in the good work of the church, thoughtfully considering how we can contribute more to fulfilling its needs. As emphasized in Haggai, God urges us to consider our ways, to think about our priorities and what He wants us to aim for, ensuring we are not neglecting His house while focusing on our own comforts. Through thoughtful consideration and active participation in His work, we bring pleasure and glory to Him.
