'I Will Pour Out My Spirit!'

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

The qualifications of a deacon are rooted in the presence of God's Spirit, as seen in the early church. Deacons were chosen based on being full of the Spirit, demonstrating that they were already active witnesses living according to God's way of life and fulfilling some responsibilities of the role before their selection. This pattern of service, exemplified by Jesus Christ, emphasizes that deacons must strive to embody righteous qualities, reflecting a life of repentance, humility, and Christ-like service. Their character and commitment to God's way are essential, ensuring they equip and assist others in the church to fulfill their calling.

The Ambiguous Mind

Commentary by Martin G. Collins

A double standard, defined as the pretense of holding beliefs or standards one does not truly possess, is a serious concern in matters of integrity. In I Timothy 3:8, it is emphasized that a man must not be double-tongued before being ordained as a deacon. This reflects God's expectation that all His representatives, whether ordained or not, must avoid being two-faced, deceitful, or hypocritical in thought or action. Such a standard underscores the importance of consistency and honesty in fulfilling roles of spiritual responsibility.
