Handwriting on the Wall: Cultural Christianity

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The church of God has long been vigilant in identifying false forms of Christianity, and one such counterfeit that has emerged recently is Cultural Christianity. This form of worldly, carnal belief is not of God but originates from the world, sitting in its own niche by emphasizing Christianity's positive impact on Western culture and values as its main priority. Cultural Christians align with Christianity not for its teachings, but because they admire the cultural effects and principles it has produced, believing these have made Western civilization superior. They credit Christianity for these cultural strengths, though they separate them from its core beliefs. Figures like Richard Dawkins, Elon Musk, Jordan Peterson, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali identify as Cultural Christians due to an affection for its cultural efficacy rather than its spiritual essence. Their conversions or affiliations often stem from a reaction to a changing cultural and political landscape, viewing Christianity as the foundation of Western civilization, rather than seeking personal transformation or forgiveness. Historically, this is not a new phenomenon; many have been church members for cultural or social benefits rather than religious conviction, as seen with figures like Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson, who supported Christianity for its societal good without fully embracing it. Cultural Christianity today is marked by a rejection of Christ and His demands, using a syncretic form of belief to bolster a declining culture rather than to guide individuals to salvation. It is characterized by a form of godliness that denies its true power, as Cultural Christians resist the transformative authority of God, seeking instead the acclaim for cultural contributions without submission to Him. They desire Christian blessings without the God who provides them, without the truth He proclaims, and without the reverence or commitment He requires, treating Christianity as a label or brand for personal or cultural agendas.

God Hates?

Sermonette by Ronny H. Graham

God hates hypocritical religious convocations when people pay lip service but no heart service to Him. Mankind does not know how to stop hate, but God will.
