Power

Article by David C. Grabbe

The church of the Philadelphians has a 'little strength', suggesting that Christ commends them for being 'faithful in little' and will reward them with much.

The Providence of God (Part Five)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God uses calamities as part of His creative process. Like Jacob, who initially succumbed to weak faith and fear, we must repent of our loss of devotion to God.

Are We Really Committed?

Sermonette by Mark Schindler

Brethren, within the church, we must be vigilant of the attitudes that can hinder our total commitment to God. Some harbor a worldly compromise, seeking to keep peace with those around them rather than fully aligning with God's will. Others run as close to the edge as possible, believing they can avoid consequences by not crossing over completely. There are those who focus on each other, comparing themselves among themselves, instead of keeping their eyes on the Almighty God and His purpose. Worst of all, some believe that God will overlook their lack of responsibility and still grant blessings without full obedience. Any of these attitudes can prevent us from being wholly dedicated to God, risking spiritual death like Ananias and Sapphira. Yet, there is good news as we gather at the Feast of Tabernacles. This is a time for examination, to meticulously inventory our lives over the past year and assess our commitment to God. We must ask ourselves: Are we holding back from total dedication? Have we compromised with the world for peace? Are we running too close to the edge? Are we focusing on others instead of God? Do we expect blessings without full commitment? This Feast is our opportunity to become completely devoted to God, to count our blessings, and to ensure our commitment matches His faithfulness to us. God separates us from the world during this Feast to recount what He has done and to strengthen our faith by seeing His hand in everything. We must share with one another the miracles and challenges in our lives, bolstering our faith and commitment to God's purpose. This is a time to tremble at God's Word, to renew or initiate our 100% dedication, and to ensure we do not miss the opportunity for spiritual growth. As we march forward in God's plan, we must be fully committed, understanding that without this dedication, we cannot stand before Him.
