Reinstituting Daily Sacrifices in Jerusalem

Commentary by Kim Myers

Among the significant events prophesied to occur before the return of Christ and the ushering in of the Millennium, the daily sacrifices must be reinstated. These sacrifices are a crucial precursor, and their cessation marks a pivotal moment. It is foretold that the daily sacrifices will be stopped by the anti-Christ for 1290 days, a period spanning a little over three and a half years, coinciding with the time of the Tribulation. Initially, these sacrifices are expected to be instituted for three and a half years during a deceptive period of peace, only to be taken away, signaling the start of the Tribulation. Currently, there is a notable movement among some Jews in Israel who are earnestly striving to restart the daily sacrifices. Despite opposition from Jewish authorities in Jerusalem, their determination is evident as they have constructed a portable altar weighing four and a half tons. The primary obstacle remains the reluctance of the Jewish government to provoke conflict with Muslims. Nevertheless, the seriousness of these efforts underscores the potential imminence of prophetic fulfillment. God instructs His people to watch for these signs, not for physical preservation, but to prepare spiritually and draw closer to Him as prophecy unfolds. The reinstitution of the daily sacrifices, if it occurs in the coming years, could be a significant indicator of the approaching end times, urging a sense of urgency to align more closely with Christ-like character.

The Book of Daniel (Part Six)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

In the vision of Daniel 8, a prophecy unfolds concerning the latter days when a ruler, symbolized by the little horn, will arise from one of the four divisions of Alexander's empire. This ruler will stand against the Prince of Princes, Jesus Christ, at His second coming. A significant aspect of this prophecy involves the daily sacrifices, which are foretold to be taken away. The sanctuary of God will be cast down and trampled underfoot by this ruler's actions. The prophecy specifies a period of twenty-three hundred evening and morning sacrifices, which translates to eleven hundred and fifty days, during which the daily sacrifices will cease. This duration reflects the twice-daily offerings that will be omitted. At the end of this period, the sanctuary is to be cleansed or declared right. Historically, Antiochus Epiphanes prohibited the daily sacrifices from 167 to 164 BC, serving as a forerunner to the ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy. However, the final fulfillment is yet to occur in the latter days, extending to a period of twelve hundred and ninety days as mentioned in Daniel 12, when the daily sacrifice will again be taken away and the abomination of desolation set up. This future event will see a world dictator arise, speaking blasphemy and persecuting God's people, suspending public worship of the Great God. The vision, though clear in its general features of oppression and the cessation of sacrifices, leaves many details yet to be fully understood until the time of fulfillment.

What Do the 1,290 and 1,335 Days Represent (Daniel 12:11-12)?

Bible Questions & Answers

The prophecy in Daniel 12:11 states that from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. This suggests that the Jews in the modern nation of Israel may restore the twice-daily sacrifice for a short period, possibly without the need for a Temple, as an altar alone could suffice for such offerings. However, it is indicated that the armies of the Beast, upon entering Jerusalem, will likely ban this ritual, marking the start of the 1,290 days until the appearance of the Messiah. Additionally, a blessing is pronounced upon the people of God who endure until the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days, a period beginning 1,335 days before Christ's return. Forty-five days after this, or 1,290 days before Christ's return, the Beast's armies will surround Jerusalem, signaling a critical prophetic event in this timeline.
