Will the Church of God Be Thrown Down? (Part One)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

Jesus Christ's prophecy about "not one stone left upon another" specifically pertains to the physical Temple and its surroundings. He emphasized physical observation when He said, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down." This prophecy was fulfilled in AD 70 when the Roman Emperor Titus destroyed the city and the Temple. The focus of this prophecy is on the physical structures, not on the spiritual Temple or the church.

A House Left Desolate

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Jesus took His disciples out of the temple and said, "Look at all this. Not one stone will be left upon another." This statement followed His pronouncement of judgment against the Jewish leadership in Matthew 23, where He detailed their hypocrisy and iniquity. As they left the temple area, heading towards the Mount of Olives, the disciples looked back at the magnificent temple and its surrounding buildings. Jesus then remarked, "Don't you see all these things? Not one stone here shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down." This meant that the temple, symbolizing the nation's house, would be completely destroyed, becoming a barren hilltop. This prophecy was fulfilled between AD 68 and AD 70 when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, signifying the desolation of the temple, the city, and the nation due to their rejection of Jesus as the Messiah.

Will the Church of God Be Thrown Down? (Part Two)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

Jesus Christ's words in Matthew 24:2 about not one stone being left upon another had a physical fulfillment in the destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem in AD 70. However, the church of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ as the Chief Cornerstone, ensures that as long as the church exists, there will be at least one living stone upon another. The church may undergo changes in form, experience turmoil, division, and scattering, but it will always have structure and cohesiveness. Even in times of relative stability, the church faces persecution from outside, as warned by Jesus in Matthew 24:9. The prophetic books of Zechariah and Revelation suggest that before Christ's return, a definite structure will be in place, indicating an organized Body cared for by the Head. Though physical organizations may come and go, the church will prevail against the gates of Hades, maintaining a unity of the Spirit and the love among Jesus' disciples, ensuring that the living stones are never very far apart.

The Book of Daniel (Part Eight)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Several types of the abomination of desolation have occurred in history, including the desecration of the temple by Antiochus Epiphanes and the Roman legions.

Could You Stand Alone?

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Would we have the same courage to stand spiritually as the brave unarmed man who resisted the tanks of the Chinese Red Army in Tiananmen Square?
