Every Which Way But Up

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

Faith (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

In Hebrews 10, the people endured great struggles with suffering, were made a spectacle, and were subjected to reproaches. They went through tribulations and became companions of those who were similarly treated. Moses, by faith, chose to associate with a despised people and deliberately chose reproach and scorn. He faced ridicule, being made a joke of, jested, and sneered at, and was thought to be a silly fool. Despite this, Moses voluntarily and deliberately chose by faith to endure these reproaches.

Lamentations (Part Seven; 1989)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

Lamentations 3 and 4 show the stark contrast of a once proud people (secure in their wealth, technology, and cleverness) suffering bitter humiliation.

Offerings (Part Three)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

Reproach comes from those closest to us, often causing the greatest difficulty in our relationships with others. When serving others, we can expect to be disappointed, discouraged, and offended by the very people we are helping. This is a lesson we must learn to anticipate, as even Jesus Christ experienced reproach from those He served. Despite the pain and frustration that can come from serving others, we are called to persevere and allow the trials to refine our character, just as fine flour is ground until it becomes smooth and even.
