God, who inhabits eternity and numbers the stars and every hair on our heads, may have individually had each of the called in mind, and gifted them for their unique place in the Body of Christ, before the world began. The gifts, including faith, are not worked up from within but placed there by God, and are meant to be stirred up and increased, as Paul urged Timothy in II Timothy 1:5-9. Ephesians 1:4 says God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, and II Timothy 1:9 says His grace was given to us before time began. Jesus' promise in John 14 to prepare a place for the disciples is seen as the next step in a preparation that long preceded it. To think otherwise limits God, whose mind and power are unlimited, as Psalm 147, Luke 12, and Abram's belief on seeing the stars show. This is offered as a possibility, not a settled declaration. It is not rigid predestination, since the parable of the minas shows that someone who neglects his gift can lose his prepared place to another. Being gifted from before the world began should therefore deepen appreciation of God's power and holiness and move the called to use their gifts faithfully in the Family of God for eternity.
